Vehicle Safety Advise

Good Afternoon,

We are aware that there has been an increase of Vehicle Crime within the Blackburn Area.

With Winter now in full swing and the colder darker nights/mornings, the offenders find these conditions the perfect opportunity to steal so do not give them reason to target yourself.

Here are a few tips to avoid your cars being broken into/stolen:-

  • When de-frosting your car, please do not leave your keys in the ignition or on display
  • Do not leave any valuables in your car including mobile phones, wallets/purses, designer clothes, laptops and gadgets however small. Even if they are not on display there is still a risk
  • Do not leave any money/loose change in your vehicle. Even a small amount of money is a possible target.
  • Do not leave any tools/work gear in your vehicle or Van overnight or on display.
  • Please ensure your vehicle is always locked and secure when unattended, including outside your home or on a driveway. When investigating previous crimes, we have noticed this is a repeat pattern we face. Offenders will try door handles and try their luck.
  • Do not leave your vehicle running when you exit the vehicle i.e using a cash machine.
  • Park in well lit areas if possible, security lights may be an option for driveways.
  • Do not leave any shopping in your vehicle.
  • When inside your home, please do not leave your keys close to your front door and unlocked. This is such an easy way for your car to be stolen. Please ensure they are locked away and hidden especially overnight.
  •

We urge that if you have been a victim of an incident or are a victim of any future incidents to please report this to the police via 101 or online ASAP.

Please also ensure if you do have any CCTV cameras or Ring Doorbells etc that they are in full working order with the correct date and time. This can be crucial evidence that can help with our investigations and help find the offenders.

    Kind Regards

    Blackburn NHPT
