Parking and Highway obstruction |
||
Good afternoon Officers have been in the area today as we have received an increase in reports about parking. We know that these streets have to hold the pressure of the traffic and houses have multiple cars. Please can we urge residents to park with care and consideration for your fellow neighbours. It is difficult to fit all the cars in regardless of poor parking. We ask that if you have work vehicles or vans to limit how many you bring home or if they can be left at work depots. I have also been shown pictures of vehicles parking IN the highway, so other cars are having to drive round the PARKED vehicle to get past. This is a clear obstruction of the highway, let alone causing nuisance on a junction.
Section 137 of the Highways Act 1980 warns that it is an offence to obstruct the highway without proper permission from the local highway authority. It explains “if a person without lawful authority in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 51 weeks or a fine or both”.
If everyone takes care and consideration together we can manage the matter.
Thank you. | ||
