E-SCOOTERS

Hi All,

Following concerns raised by our local communities, the Accrington Neighbourhood policing team have been out on high visibility patrol in the district.

As a result, an E Scooter has been seized under Section 165 Road Traffic Act, due to the owner riding the vehicle on a public road without the required documentation.

A polite reminder to communities, that these scooters are ONLY permitted to be used on PRIVATE land with the landowners consent and CANNOT be ridden on public roads, pavements or cycle paths. If YOU are seen, YOU will be prosecuted for driving without a license and insurance.

There have been a number of reported incidents resulting in injuries of children and other road users regarding these scooters, there is a national concern regarding the use of E-scooters in local communities and police are actively encouraging parents to ensure that their children are not seen to be riding these scooters on pavements or public places. They are not toys and unfortunately can cause serious injuries.

We have a duty to protect the wider public as well as those who ride these scooters.

We appreciate the cooperation of the communities who welcome our stance on the seizures of these scooters and welcome any questions or information you may have about this.
