Speed Enforcement Cockerham Village |
||
Good afternoon
Yesterday evening your local neighbourhood police officers have been conducting speed enforcement on Main Street, Cockerham. This was after concerns were raised by local residents of vehicles speeding. Traffic data showed that the majority of drivers exceeding the speed limit was during the morning and evening rush hour, so enforcement was taken during these times.
Thankfully during the enforcement, the majority of drivers were driving well below the 30MPH speed limit. However there was a small number who were caught exceeding the speed limit. These drivers were stopped and have been given a notice of intended prosecution where depending on their speed and driver history they can be offered a speed awareness course, issued a fixed penalty notice (with points) or given a summons to court.
During the enforcement, one vehicle was caught driving at excess speed and having no insurance. The two passengers were also searched for drugs with cannabis found within the vehicle and the driver was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drugs.
Lancashire Constabulary take a zero tolerance on speeding through our villages, especially by those who drink in excess or take drugs and then get behind the wheel putting our communities at risk.
We will continue to enforce the speed limit in Cockerham over the coming weeks.
