||||
๐จ SPEED ENFORCEMENT UPDATE ๐จ #YOUSAIDWEDID
๐ On Friday 17th October 2025 your neighbourhood policing team conducted some speed enforcement on parts of Merry Trees Lane followed by Cottam Avenue in response to concerns raised by residents regarding reports of speeding vehicles along these roads. The concerns have been identified from our recent Lancashire Talking surveys which indicate that road safety concerns are consistently in the top 5 issues raised by residents in this area. In addition, the roads were identified by our partners at the Lancashire Road Safety Partnership who had received complaints directly from residents and having completed the collection and analysis of data along this stretch believed it required further action. These patrols will continue, and speed enforcement will be planned accordingly. Please continue to report any issues so we remain aware and can take appropriate action. See reporting methods below. For speeding concerns, it is to the Lancashire Road Safety Partnerships: you can report speeding, need for traffic calming measures etc. The concerns are then tasked out to your local policing teams, Community Road watch, Traffic Police, Road safety Camera Vans, Lancashire County council etc. Speed Concern โ Lancashire Road Safety Partnership For Road issues including Potholes, Parking, traffics lights etc you can use the Love Clean streets app from Lancashire County Council. Report It on the go with Love Clean Streets - Lancashire County Council
We were on Merry Trees Lane between 4.20pm and 4.50pm. During that time approximately 133 vehicles passed through our checkpoint. Unfortunately, whilst most drivers were adhering to the speed limits, a small number (2) were not. The fastest on this occasion being 36MPH. Those drivers were stopped and where appropriate have been reported for the offence of speeding where either a speed awareness course will be offered, or a fixed penalty notice will be issued. We were on Cottam Way between 5pm and 5.30pm. During that time approximately 181 vehicles passed through our checkpoint. Unfortunately, whilst most drivers were adhering to the speed limits, a small number (3) were not. The fastest on this occasion being 40MPH. Again, drivers were stopped and where appropriate have been reported for the offence of speeding where either a speed awareness course will be offered, or a fixed penalty notice will be issued.
Enforcement will continue so please slow down. #YOUSAIDWEDID
Speeding remains one of the most significant contributors to serious road traffic collisions. It endangers not only the driver but also passengers, pedestrians, and other road users. The risks include: ๐ Reduced Reaction Time: At higher speeds, drivers have less time to respond to unexpected hazards such as pedestrians crossing, vehicles braking suddenly, or changes in road conditions. ๐ Longer Stopping Distances: The faster a vehicle travels, the longer it takes to stop. This increases the likelihood of collisions, especially in built-up or residential areas. โ ๏ธ Greater Impact Severity: Speed directly affects the force of impact in a collision. Higher speeds result in more severe injuries and a greater chance of fatalities. ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ Increased Risk to Vulnerable Road Users: Children, the elderly, cyclists, and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable. A pedestrian struck at 30mph has a far higher chance of survival than one struck at 40mph. ๐จ Reduced Vehicle Control: Excessive speed can lead to loss of control, especially in poor weather, on bends, or when manoeuvring around obstacles.
Thank you to all those who continue to let us know of the issues affecting you. Take care PC Jenny, PCSO Jules, PCSO Joe | ||||
