Good Morning Resident
We are today issuing an urgent warning for people to be vigilant and mindful when using the ATM machines to withdraw money or check their balance.
We are currently investigating multiple reports of Fraud in East Lancashire which have occurred over the last few months. Some of these incidents have occurred within Hyndburn, Blackburn, Pendle and Burnley.
Some of the ATM machines which have been targeted are:
We have been made aware that a group of males are individually targeting vulnerable elderly victims who are using the ATM machines. The suspects are engaging with the victim in an attempt to distract them so that the victim leaves their bank card in the machine. This appears to be in the form of reaching over and entering the wrong pin or encouraging the victim to enter their DOB into the machine. Suspect will then retrieve the bank card from the machine and use the bank card elsewhere to withdraw cash.
We want to share some important information on how to protect yourselves from Fraudsters. We’re very conscious that some of those most vulnerable to these types of scams may not see this message, so we are asking you to tell your loved ones and neighbours about these top tips.
❌ Never share your pin code with anyone. ❌ Never give banking or personal details to anyone you do not know or trust. This information is personal so make sure you protect it. 👀Be mindful who is around you when you use an ATM machine. If you see someone suspicious hanging around you or being overly friendly, don’t use the cash machine, and report it to us straight away. ✋Cover the pin pad with your hand when using a cash machine- you never know if someone is watching you input it.
If you think you have been a victim of this, please report this to us by calling 101 or using the online form through our police website. Alternatively, you can call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
