As you may be aware, we have had three recent burglaries in the Darwen and Turton areas.  

CCTV has been a valuable asset to us during our enquiries. We would always recommend  CCTV as a potential deterrent and it can be used as a key part of the investigation.

Here are a few tips:-

Offenders can approach properties from the rear, so it is key that CCTV is installed at the back of your property as well as the front. Internal cameras are also beneficial and can cost very little these days. 

Cameras on the exterior should be positioned between 8 and 10 ft off the ground, not too high as not to see a face, but not too low as they can easily be tampered with. A good spotlight/lighting is also recommended. 

Another recommendation is to add additional casing or security to mains electric boxes on the exterior of the property. Offenders can sometimes cut the electric prior to entering. 

High performance cars seem to be the main target, so please remain vigilant. We would give the advice to hide your keys, use a faraday pouch and use a steering lock.
