We have recently been made aware of counterfeit 10 and 20 pound notes circulating across Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde. The notes have been used to pay for good in shops, pay for taxis and pay for goods being purchased via online market places.
The notes we have seized vary in quality, but ALL of them have tell tale signs of being fake if checked.
Its important you check any notes before the person leaves or goods are handed over.
Some key things to look out for include:
1) HOLOGRAM IMAGE CHANGE - Tilt the note from side to side. Check the words change between the value of the note and pounds.
2) SEE THROUGH WINDOW - check the foil is gold on the front of £5 and £10 notes, gold and blue on the front of £20 notes and silver on the back of all notes.
3) THE MONARCHS PORTRAIT IS IN THE SEE THROUGH WINDOW ON ALL NOTES
4) GENUINE NOTES ARE PRINTED ON A THIN AND FLEXIBLE PLASTIC (POLYMER) AND THE WORDS "BANK OF ENGLAND" ARE SLIGHTLY RAISED
