There are reports of fake banknotes in circulation locally. Please take a moment to check any cash you receive or carry. Some people may have these notes without realising.

If you think a note is fake, do not spend it. Report it to your local bank or local police.

Here is a quick tutorial on how you can identify a fake note:

Feel

Real notes feel firm and slightly slippery (polymer)
Some areas (like numbers) feel raised
Fakes often feel too smooth or flimsy

Look

Clear window should be see-through and well-defined
Print quality should be sharp, not blurry
Tiny text should be clear, not smudged

Tilt

Hologram changes when you move the note
Colours on parts of the note may shift
Foil details should move or shimmer

Police are dealing with those who are attempting to make purchases using counterfeit notes and our dedicated teams will continue to monitor and deal with all reports made to us.
