Help reduce the risk of wildfires during warm, dry weather

Warm, dry conditions can increase the risk of wildfires. 

By taking a few simple precautions, farmers and landowners can help protect their land, property, livestock and Lancashire’s countryside.

• Take care when using machinery or equipment that creates heat or sparks, such as welding or grinding
• Keep farmyards, workshops and areas around buildings clear of waste, dry vegetation and combustible materials
• Store flammable materials, including fuel, hay and straw, safely away from buildings and public access
• Avoid bonfires, BBQs and open flames during hot, dry weather
• Dispose of smoking materials safely and only smoke away from flammable materials
• Remove litter and glass, which can focus sunlight and start fires

• Avoid planned burning in hot/dry periods
• Make sure access routes remain clear for emergency vehicles

Please take a few moments to check your land, buildings and equipment, and make sure you have suitable measures in place to help prevent fires from starting and spreading.

Call 999 immediately.

When you contact us, please provide as much information as possible, including:

• The exact location of the fire (what3words or OS grid reference if available)
• What is burning or at risk, such as crops, hay, machinery or livestock housing
• Access details for fire appliances
• Information about water supplies, if available

If it is safe to do so:

• Move people and livestock to a safe area
• Remain on site to guide fire crews to the incident
• Do not attempt to tackle large fires yourself
