A friendly reminder about cold callers

A friendly reminder about cold callers

We have received some information about cold callers in your local area. There is no need to be alarmed, but we thought this would be a good opportunity to share a few simple reminders to help you stay safe and confident when dealing with unexpected callers.

Take your time and never feel pressured into making a decision on the doorstep.

If an offer sounds too good to be true, take a step back and check it independently.

Check the identity and credentials of anyone offering work or services.

Don't hand over money or sign anything until you're happy that everything is genuine.

Keep your banking and personal information private.

If you're unsure about something, speak to a family member, friend or someone you trust before making a decision.

If you think you've encountered a scam, please report it and seek advice.

Most importantly, don't feel embarrassed if you've been caught out. Fraudsters can be very convincing, and reporting your experience can help protect other people too.

Please consider sharing this advice with a friend, relative or neighbour who may appreciate the reminder.

Stay safe and look out for one another.
