Section 60 in place in Blackpool

Alert message sent 26/04/2019 18:25:00

Information sent on behalf of Lancashire Constabulary

Dear Citizen

A section 60 will be in place in the Talbot area of Blackpool from 7pm tonight (Friday, April 26th).

It follows an altercation which took place last night, when a group of men armed with weapons were fighting first on Talbot Road and then on Cookson Street.

A section 60 gives us the power to search people or vehicles without suspicion in an area where we believe violence could take place. We also have the power to require the removal of face coverings or disguises.

This should not overly concern people. It’s not about targeting people, but is about making sure we do all we can to keep people safe.

The powers are in place from 7pm today (April 26th) until 7am tomorrow (April 27th) and cover the area shown on the map.

You can find more information about section 60 authorisations here: https://www.lancashire.police.uk/help-advice/stop-and-search/section-60-without-suspicion-searches/" target="_blank">https://www.lancashire.police.uk/help-advice/stop-and-search/section-60-without-suspicion-searches/
