Information sent on behalf of Lancashire Constabulary

Dear Citizen

Phone scammers have once again been targeting older people in Blackburn. We had a report yesterday, Wednesday, 26 June, from a bank saying a customer had come in and was very upset. She had received a call from an 0203 number saying there was a fraud on her account and she needed to check her balance.

The fraudster then gave her banking details to transfer money to. Luckily, the victim went into her bank to tell them and the manager immediately became suspicious and contacted us. However, the fraudster even called her whilst she was in the bank and continued to pressurise her. No money was transferred and we are now making enquiries and looking after the victim.

Please do your best to raise awareness of these scams with older friends and relatives and keep them safe. There is some really good advice and details for the Telephone Preference Service on the Age UK website here

Please use the share button at the bottom of this alert to forward it on to friends or share on social media. Thanks.
