Alert message sent 05/07/2019 20:52:00

Information sent on behalf of Lancashire Constabulary

Dear Citizen

This is to let you know that Section 60 powers are now in place in Fleetwood, in the area shown on the attached map.

It follows a number of incidents over the last few days, the first of which occurred yesterday (Thursday), when a caravan was broken into at Cala Gran Holiday Park by a group believed to have been in possession of crowbars. Nothing was stolen and nobody was hurt during the incident.

The second incident occurred at around 2.50am this morning, when we were called to an address on Princess Way to reports of a fire. The fire is currently being treated as suspicious.

The third incident occurred this afternoon shortly before 1.15pm, when we were called to a reports a group of men had forced their way into an address on Broadway while in possession of machete-type weapons. It is not believe anybody was injured.

At this time we are treating the incidents as linked.

Ch Insp Eric Halford, of West Division Police, said: “At this time we believe the incidents may be connected and would like to reassure people that we do not believe there to be any wider threat to the public.

“Having a Section 60 in place gives us the power to search people or vehicles without suspicion in an area where we believe violence could take place. We also have the power to require the removal of face coverings or disguises.

“This should not overly concern people. It’s not about targeting people, but is about making sure we do all we can to keep people safe.”

The powers were put in place at 7pm today (Friday July 5th) and will last until 7am tomorrow (Saturday July 6th).
